ASSEMBLY STATE GOVERNMENT COMMITTEE
STATEMENT TO
ASSEMBLY, No. 1263
STATE OF NEW JERSEY
DATED: FEBRUARY 5, 1996
The Assembly State Government Committee reports favorably Assembly Bill No. 1263.
This bill reduces the maximum amount of public funds available to a candidate for the office of Governor under the gubernatorial campaign financing provisions of "The New Jersey Campaign Contributions and Expenditures Reporting Act" to $1,000,000 in the primary election and $2,000,000 in the general election to be held in 1997. In subsequent gubernatorial elections, these maximum amounts would, just as at present, be subject to adjustment for inflation.
This legislation would implement a May 18, 1994 recommendation of the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission.
This bill was prefiled for introduction in the 1996 session pending technical review. As reported, the bill includes the changes required by technical review, which has been performed.
