An Act concerning targeted picketing of residential dwellings and supplementing Title 2C of the New Jersey Statutes.

 

    Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

    1. A person who pickets before or about the residential dwelling of another, whether alone or with others, is guilty of a disorderly persons offense.

 

    2. This act shall take effect immediately.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

    New Jersey's public policy favors the protection of individual residential privacy. The protection of this privacy represents a significant government interest. This bill imposes a total ban on picketing before or about the residential dwelling of another person, making such conduct a disorderly persons offense. A disorderly persons offense is punishable by a term of imprisonment up to six months, a fine not to exceed $1,000 or both.
