STATEMENT

Under the provisions of this bill, only individuals who display a valid firearms purchaser identification card, a certified copy of a permit to purchase a hand gun, a valid permit to carry a handgun, or a valid New Jersey hunting license may lawfully purchase ammunition in this State. This regulatory scheme would assure that only individuals who can prove that they lawfully possess a firearm may purchase ammunition in New Jersey.

The bill provides that individuals who sell or purchase ammunition in violation of these restrictions are guilty of a disorderly persons offense.
