An Act concerning the sale, barter, and taking of Atlantic sturgeon and supplementing Title 23 of the Revised Statutes.

 

    Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

    1. Notwithstanding the provisions of R.S.23:9-9 or R.S.23:9-16 or any other law, or rule or regulation adopted pursuant thereto, to the contrary, no person shall sell, barter, or offer for sale or barter any member of the species Acipenser oxyrhynchus, more commonly known as Atlantic sturgeon, caught in or taken from any of the waters of the State. No person shall catch and take or attempt to catch and take Atlantic sturgeon from any waters of the State with any device, including, but not limited to, a seine or gill net, as part of a commercial fishing operation.

 

    2. This act shall take effect immediately.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

    This bill prohibits the sale, barter, or the offering for sale or barter, of Atlantic sturgeon caught in or taken from any of the waters of the State, and the taking of this fish as part of a commercial fishing operation.

 

 

                             

 

Prohibits the taking of Atlantic sturgeon for sale or barter or as part of commercial fishing operations.
