An Act to prohibit certain recreational activities in State and county correctional institutions and supplementing Title 30 of the New Jersey Statutes.

 

    Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

    1. Within 60 days of the enactment of this act, the Commissioner of the Department of Corrections shall adopt regulations prohibiting in State and county correctional institutions, including juvenile detention facilities, the following:

    a. Weight lifting and recreational equipment used for weight lifting purposes; and

    b. Access to cable television service.

 

    2. This act shall take effect immediately.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

    This bill would require the Commissioner of the Department of Corrections to adopt regulations banning weight lifting and the use of weight lifting equipment in State and county correctional institutions. The bill would also prohibit access to cable television service in correctional facilities.
