FISCAL NOTE TO

ASSEMBLY, No. 1558

STATE OF NEW JERSEY

DATED: June 7, 1996

Assembly Bill No. 1558 of 1996 would impose an assessment of $100 on persons convicted of the sexual offenses which require registration under the provisions of P.L.1994, c.133 (Megan's Law). The money shall be deposited in the Sexual Offender Victim Counseling Fund established by the bill. Proceeds from this fund will be used by the Division of Criminal Justice within the Department of Law and Public Safety to fund counseling for victims of sexual offenses and their families.

The Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) states that based on the number of sentences handed down during 1994 for the sexual offenses covered in this bill, about 572 individuals would be required to pay the $100 assessment each year, generating a total of $57,200 annually for victims' counseling programs.

The Office of Legislative Services concurs.
