An Act prohibiting public and private institutions from providing certain student information and supplementing chapter 62 of Title 18A of the New Jersey Statutes.

 

    Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

    1. When a public or private institution that receives State aid provides copies of student transcripts, the information printed on the transcript shall exclude the date-of-birth of the student. If necessary, public and private institutions may continue to collect this information for internal purposes. Student transcripts shall continue to show the student's dates of attendance and the academic performance and any other relevant information that might be displayed on the transcript document.

 

    2. This act shall take effect immediately.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

    This bill prohibits public and private institutions from providing a student's date-of-birth on college transcript request copies. The provision of this information could, in certain instances, provide a vehicle for age discrimination. However, institutions are not prohibited from collecting this information for internal purposes.

 

 

 

Prohibits institutions of higher education from including date-of-birth on student transcripts.
