An Act concerning the New Jersey Transit Corporation and supplementing P.L.1979, c.150 (C.27:25-1 et seq.).
Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. On the effective date of P.L. , c. (C. )(now pending before the Legislature as this bill) and for the five years thereafter, each motorbus purchased by the corporation shall be a vehicle the emissions of which are at or below the levels of emissions emitted by a compressed natural gas motorbus for the model year in which P.L. , c. (C. )(now pending before the Legislature as this bill) is enacted, as certified by the manufacturer and the Department of Environmental Protection. During the five years after the effective date of P.L. , c. (C. )(now pending before the Legislature as this bill), the corporation, in cooperation with the Department of Environmental Protection, shall evaluate the environmental benefits of the use of vehicles the emissions of which are at or below the levels of emissions emitted by a compressed natural gas motorbus, and, at the conclusion of the five years after the effective date of P.L. , c. (C. )(now pending before the Legislature as this bill), shall report its findings to the Governor and the Legislature. To the maximum extent feasible, the corporation shall assign the motorbuses purchased to routes in the urban areas of the State where air pollution problems are the greatest, as designated by the Department of Environmental Protection in consultation with the Department of Transportation.
2. This act shall take effect immediately.
Requires NJT to purchase certain alternative fuel vehicles or vehicles that meet certain standards.
