STATEMENT TO

ASSEMBLY, No. 1756

with Assembly Floor Amendments

(Proposed By Assemblymen DiGAETANO and COLLINS)

ADOPTED: JUNE 23, 1997

The amendments clarify that various provisions in the bill apply to accounting firms as well as to individuals licensed as certified public accountants or public accountants. The amendments also include provisions permitting certified public accountants or public accountants or firms who are licensed by a comparable foreign designation to engage, under certain circumstances, in temporary practice in New Jersey. Also, in addition to other requirements, the amendments establish that, after July 1, 2,000, every applicant for examination for licensure as a certified public accountant shall have received a baccalaureate or higher degree from an institution of higher education accredited by a regional accrediting agency recognized by the Commission on Higher Education rather than from an institution acceptable to the New Jersey State Board of Accountancy. The amendments also remove the stipulation in the bill that upon the approval of the election of each officer of the board, the board shall file with the Secretary of State the name and post office address of each officer.

These amendments make this bill identical to Senate Bill No. 2089.
