ASSEMBLY TRANSPORTATION AND COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE

STATEMENT TO

ASSEMBLY, No. 1763

STATE OF NEW JERSEY

DATED: MAY 13, 1996

The Assembly Transportation and Communications Committee reports favorably Assembly Bill No. 1763.

Current law prohibits farm vehicles from being operated on public highways between sunset and sunrise. Also, current law allows farmers to obtain farmer license plates only for their trucks that are engaged exclusively in the transport of the farmer's farm products, and not engaged in hauling for hire. This bill would allow farmers who have contracted with a municipality to remove snow, to not only do so between sunset and sunrise, but also to use their farm trucks on the roads at such times and without any additional licenses.
