An Act providing tenure to certain municipal engineers and supplementing chapter 9 of Title 40A of the New Jersey Statutes.

 

    Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

    1. Upon adoption of an ordinance authorizing tenure for the position of full-time municipal engineer, a person employed by a municipality as a full-time municipal engineer who has been employed in that capacity continuously for at least five years shall continue to hold that position during good behavior and efficiency, notwithstanding that the person was appointed for a fixed term, and that person shall not be removed from that position for political or other reasons except for good cause shown, upon written charges filed with the municipal clerk and after a public, fair and impartial hearing.

 

    2. This act shall take effect immediately.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

    This bill provides tenure to a person employed by a municipality as a full-time municipal engineer who has been employed in that capacity continuously for at least five years, upon adoption by the municipal governing body of an ordinance authorizing tenure for the position of full-time municipal engineer.

 

 

 

Provides tenure to municipal engineers after five years of continuous employment.
