ASSEMBLY, No. 1967
STATE OF NEW JERSEY
INTRODUCED MAY 6, 1996
By Assemblymen HOLZAPFEL and WOLFE
An Act concerning notice of driver's license revocation and supplementing Title 39 of the Revised Statutes.
Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. a. When a person's license to operate any motor vehicle has been suspended or revoked, or the person has been prohibited or disqualified from obtaining a driver's license, the director shall provide notice of that action within 10 days to the police department of the municipality in which the person resides.
b. The director may promulgate rules to effectuate the purpose of this act pursuant to the "Administrative Procedure Act," P.L.1968, c.410 (C.52:14B-1 et seq.).
2. This act shall take effect on the first day of the third month following enactment.
STATEMENT
This bill would require the Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) in the Department of Transportation to notify municipal police departments within 10 days when a resident's driver's license is revoked. Notifying the local police departments will enable them to more easily identify local residents who may be driving in violation of motor vehicle laws.
Directs DMV to notify local police of driver's license revocations.
