An Act concerning certain leaves of absence for public school teachers and supplementing Title 18A of the New Jersey Statutes.

 

    Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

    1. Any full time teaching staff member shall be entitled to a leave of absence, without pay, for a period not to exceed two years to serve in the Peace Corps of the United States. Upon the expiration of the leave, the employee shall have the right to return to his former position and receive all of the rights, privileges and benefits of that position as if the employee had remained in that position.

 

    2. This act shall take effect immediately.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

    This bill provides that any full time teaching staff member is entitled to a leave of absence, without pay, for a period not to exceed two years to serve in the Peace Corps of the United States. In addition, the bill provides that upon the expiration of the leave, the employee shall have the right to return to his former position and receive all of the rights, privileges and benefits as if the employee had remained in that position.
