ASSEMBLY COMMUNITY SERVICES COMMITTEE

STATEMENT TO

ASSEMBLY, No. 2058

STATE OF NEW JERSEY

DATED: MAY 5, 1997

The Assembly Community Services Committee favorably reports Assembly Bill No. 2058.

The Director of the Division of Motor Vehicles is statutorily authorized to issue to a nursing home owner or operator a handicapped identification and windshield placard for vehicles used to transport handicapped residents of the nursing home. A nursing home vehicle displaying a handicapped identification and placard may be parked in spaces designated for use by only the physically handicapped, provided the vehicle is being used to transport a handicapped nursing home resident at the time.

This bill expands the law to allow the director to issue a handicapped identification and windshield placard to a housing authority when its vehicles are being used to transport handicapped tenants of public housing. The handicapped tenant identification and placard could be used only when the vehicle is actually being used to transport a handicapped tenant.
