ASSEMBLY, No. 2109
STATE OF NEW JERSEY
INTRODUCED JUNE 3, 1996
By Assemblymen GARCIA and ROMANO
An Act concerning transportation for pupils attending the Marine Academy of Science and Technology and amending P.L.1983, c.341.
Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. Section 6 of P.L.1983, c.341 (C.18A:54C-7) is amended to read as follows:
6. Transportation for pupils attending the Marine Academy of Science and Technology shall be provided by the district in which the pupil resides; provided the per pupil cost of the lowest bid received does not exceed an amount equal to 110% of the average transportation cost for a county vocational school pupil in the county in which the district of residence of the pupil is located, and if the lowest bid does exceed that amount, then the parent, guardian or other person having legal custody of the pupil shall be eligible to receive that amount, to be applied toward the transportation costs of the pupil, in lieu of transportation .
(cf: P.L.1983, c.341, s.6)
2. This act shall take effect immediately and shall first apply to transportation provided in the 1996-97 school year.
This bill limits the transportation which must be provided by the school district of residence to pupils attending the Marine Academy of Science and Technology. Under current law the school district of residence must pay all transportation costs for a pupil attending the academy. This bill would limit the district's costs to 110% of the average transportation costs of a county vocational school pupil in the county in which the pupil resides. If the lowest bid for transportation exceeds that amount then the district would not have to transport the pupil and the pupils parent or guardian would receive that amount to defray the cost of transporting the pupil.
Limits cost to district of residence for transporting pupil to the Marine Academy of Science and Technology to 110% of the average transportation costs for county vocational school pupils in the county in which the pupil resides.
