STATEMENT

This bill requires the Board of Public Utilities to prohibit telephone companies from assigning more than one area code to any one municipality. Proposals have been made by Bell Atlantic to "split" communities by assigning one area code or codes to one part of a community and another area code or codes to another part of the community.
