An Act concerning certain public employees and supplementing Title 26 of the Revised Statutes.

 

    Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

    1. The Commissioner of Health, in accordance with standards to be adopted consistent with accepted public health practice and the recommendations of the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, shall establish a Statewide program to provide the vaccination against the hepatitis B virus, free of charge, to any public employee whose job responsibilities render that person at risk of exposure to the virus and who wishes to be vaccinated, including, but not limited to: first aid, ambulance or rescue squad staff, emergency medical personnel, law enforcement officers and firefighters.

 

    2. The Commissioner of Health, pursuant to the "Administrative Procedure Act," P.L.1968, c.410 (C.52:14B-1 et seq.), shall adopt rules and regulations to effectuate the purposes of this act.

 

    3. This act shall take effect immediately.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

    This bill establishes a Statewide program to provide the vaccination against the hepatitis B virus, free of charge, to any public employee whose job responsibilities render that person at risk of exposure to the virus and who wishes to be vaccinated, including, but not limited to: first aid, ambulance or rescue squad staff, emergency medical personnel, law enforcement officers and firefighters. The provisions of this bill parallel an existing federal requirement for providing hepatitis B vaccinations to at-risk federal employees.
