FISCAL NOTE TO

ASSEMBLY, No. 2245

STATE OF NEW JERSEY

DATED: NOVEMBER 14, 1996

Assembly Bill No. 2245 of 1996 provides for the announcement of civil service examinations by the publication of a monthly bulletin in circular form. The Department of Personnel no longer publishes a monthly bulletin of upcoming examinations for civil service positions, but, instead, now makes this information available only in an electronic format.

The Department of Personnel estimates the first year cost of printing 80,000 job bulletins each month and distributing them throughout the State at $149,000. The department estimates that this cost will increase approximately 4.0 to 5.0 percent per year from inflation. This estimate includes the cost of hiring one additional person (salary and fringe benefits $32,000), $84,000 for materials and supplies and $33,000 for cost of distributing them to more than 600 locations throughout the State by a contract messenger service. These locations include such spots as libraries, county and municipal offices, and various appointing authorities.

The Office of Legislative Services concurs with this estimate.

This fiscal note has been prepared pursuant to P.L.1980, c.67.
