ASSEMBLY ENVIRONMENT, SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY COMMITTEE

STATEMENT TO

ASSEMBLY, No. 2268

with committee amendments

STATE OF NEW JERSEY

DATED: JANUARY 23, 1997

The Assembly Environment, Science and Technology Committee favorably reports Assembly Bill No. 2268 with committee amendments.

This bill restores $227,000 in funding to the FY 1997 budget for the New Jersey Historical Commission and $30,000 in funding to the FY 1997 budget for the Walter Edge Foran New Jersey Studies Institute. Of the sum appropriated for the New Jersey Historical Commission, $204,000 would be allocated for salaries, wages, and administrative costs, $21,000 for New Jersey history grants, and $2,000 for Afro-American history grants. Thus, the bill would restore those funding categories to FY 1996 levels. The $30,000 for the Walter Edge Foran New Jersey Studies Institute would be a partial restoration of previous funding.

The committee amendments are technical in nature and serve to reflect more accurately language in the current appropriations act. The committee also amended the effective date of the bill to make the bill effective immediately.
