STATEMENT

The amount of available federal Social Services Block Grant funds will be reduced by approximately $9.2 million on October 1, 1996. This reduction will affect various social services programs funded by the county welfare agencies, the Division of Youth and Family Services, and the Departments of Community Affairs, Corrections and Health and Senior Services.

This bill appropriates $9,200,000 from the General Fund to the Department of Human Services to offset this reduction in federal Social Services Block Grant funding and to prevent social services programs from being reduced or terminated effective October 1, 1996.
