An Act concerning the Alcohol Education, Rehabilitation and Enforcement Fund, amending P.L.1990, c.41 and making an appropriation.

 

    Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

    1. Section 2 of P.L.1990, c.41 (C.54:43-1.1) is amended to read as follows:

Beginning on July 1, [1992] 1996, there shall annually be deposited in the Alcohol Education, Rehabilitation and Enforcement Fund established pursuant to section 3 of P.L.1983, c.531 (C.26:2B-32), the sum of [$11,000,000] $18,000,000 of the tax collected annually pursuant to the "Alcoholic Beverage Tax Law," R.S. 54:41-1 et seq.

    2. (New section) There is appropriated $7,000,000 from the Alcohol Education, Rehabilitation and Enforcement Fund to the Department of Health and Senior Services to be allocated for rehabilitation, enforcement and education activities according to the formula specified in section 3 of P.L.1983, c.531 (C.26:2B-32).

 

    3. This act shall take effect immediately and be retroactive to July 1, 1996.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

    This bill requires that the amount of funds deposited into the Alcohol Education, Rehabilitation and Enforcement Fund from the "Alcoholic Beverage Tax Law" be increased by $7,000,000 annually, from $11,000,000 to $18,000,000. The bill further appropriates the additional $7,000,000 for Fiscal Year 1997 to the Department of Health and Senior Services for rehabilitation, enforcement and education activities in accordance with current law.
