LEGISLATIVE FISCAL ESTIMATE TO

[First Reprint]

ASSEMBLY, No. 2418

STATE OF NEW JERSEY

DATED: FEBRUARY 24, 1997

Assembly Bill No. 2418(1R) of 1996 authorizes the Director of the Division of Motor Vehicles to issue special license plates to members of the Legion of Valor of the United States of America. Membership in the Legion of Valor is open to holders of the Medal of Honor, the Distinguished Service Cross, the Navy Cross, or the Air Force Cross. There would be an application of $25 for the special plates, which shall be in addition to fees otherwise required by law.

The Office of Legislative Services (OLS) cannot determine how many Legion of Valor members would be interested in obtaining these special license plates, and therefore, cannot estimate the additional revenue that would be generated by the $25 application fee. However, based on costs for similar special license plates, OLS would estimate a cost of about $1,500 for a new plate die and costs of $10 to $15 to produce and issue each set of special plates.

This legislative fiscal estimate has been produced by the Office of Legislative Services due to the failure of the Executive Branch to respond to our request for a fiscal note.

This fiscal estimate has been prepared pursuant to P.L.1980, c.67.
