An Act requiring two-way communications equipment in certain vehicles and supplementing chapter 16 of Title 48 of the Revised Statutes.

 

    Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

    1. No autocab, limousine or livery service as defined in R.S.48:16-13 shall be operated unless it is equipped with a two-way communications system. Minimum standards for the equipment shall be established by the Department of Transportation, which, at a minimum, shall provide for communication to a person outside the vehicle for a distance of not less than 100 miles.

 

    2. This act shall take effect on the 360th day following enactment.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

    This bill requires limousine and livery operators to equip each of their vehicles with a two-way communications system. Minimum standards for the equipment shall be established by the Department of Transportation, which, at a minimum, shall provide for communication to a person outside the vehicle for a distance of not less than 100 miles.
