An Act requiring parental consent prior to the tattooing or body piercing of minors.

 

    Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

    1. A person commits a disorderly persons offense if he knowingly tattoos or engages in body piercing of a minor under the age of 18 years without first having obtained the written permission of the minor's parent or legal guardian or, if neither exists, a person who stands in place of a parent.

 

    2. This act shall take effect on the 60th day following enactment.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

    This bill requires that a tattooist or a person engaging in body piercing obtain the written permission of the parent or guardian of a minor under 18 years of age prior to providing these services to a minor.

    The penalty for knowingly violating the provisions of this bill is a disorderly persons offense, which is punishable by a term of imprisonment for a period of not more than six months, a fine not to exceed $1,000, or both.
