ASSEMBLY LOCAL GOVERNMENT COMMITTEE

STATEMENT TO

ASSEMBLY, No. 2525

STATE OF NEW JERSEY

DATED: JANUARY 9, 1997

The Assembly Local Government Committee reports favorably Assembly Bill No. 2525.

Assembly Bill No. 2525 would increase the amount of aid that a county or municipality can provide annually to a volunteer first aid, rescue or ambulance company from $35,000 to $70,000. R.S.40:5-2 places an upper limit on the amount of aid that a county or municipality may provide to a volunteer first aid, ambulance or rescue squad. The sponsor believes that this upper limit must be increased to keep pace with rising material costs and mandated expenses such as required medical testing of all volunteers for several infectious diseases.
