The Assembly State Government Committee reports favorably Assembly, No. 2544.
This bill establishes a seven-member New Jersey State Constitution Commemoration Commission to develop, plan and coordinate events and activities to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the drafting and ratification of the 1947 New Jersey State Constitution. The commission is to consist of two members of the Senate who are not of the same political party, appointed by the President of the Senate; two members of the General Assembly who are not of the same political party, appointed by the Speaker of the General Assembly; two public members who are not of the same political party, appointed by the Governor; and one public member appointed by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.
The bill provides an appropriation from the General Fund to the commission of $80,000 to carry out the purposes of the legislation. The legislation is to take effect upon enactment and expire March 1, 1998.
