STATEMENT

This bill makes a supplemental appropriation of $250,000 from the General Fund to the Department of Environmental Protection for the dredging and restoration of Laurel Lake in Lindenwold, Camden County. This appropriation will be used to restore Laurel Lake which has provided many years of enjoyment for children and adults. During the early 1950's and 1960's Laurel Lake served as a meeting place for many area residents where they spent time fishing and boating, and, in the winter months, ice skating and playing hockey. This recreational and community activity has steadily declined as debris has been sporadically tossed into the lake by careless individuals. The ecology of Laurel Lake has changed, resulting in sediment build-up as well as erosion in numerous areas. This capital project is to be completed by the department within one year after enactment of this bill.
