An Act concerning the display of certain vegetation and supplementing the "Uniform Fire Safety Act," P.L.1983, c.383 (C.52:27D-192 et seq.).

    Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

    1. Notwithstanding the provisions of any law, rule or regulation to the contrary, vegetation such as but not limited to straw, hay, vines, leaves, stalks, trees and moss, used in holiday displays may be exhibited in commercial buildings and places of assembly used for religious purposes from Thanksgiving Day through New Year's Day.

    2. This act shall take effect immediately.

STATEMENT

    This bill permits vegetation used in holiday displays to be exhibited in commercial buildings and places of religious worship from Thanksgiving Day through New Year's Day. Current regulations adopted pursuant to the "Uniform Fire Safety Act," P.L.1983, c.383 (C. 52:27D-195 et seq.) prohibit such displays in places of assembly unless the material is noncombustible or flame-resistant. In other structures, such materials are prohibited for decorative purposes in such quantities as to constitute a fire hazard, unless the materials are flameproofed in an approved manner.
