This bill appropriates $4,000,000 to the Division of Fire Safety in the Department of Community Affairs to fund training and other programs for firefighters and to permit the hiring of 40 additional staff members in the Division of Fire Safety.

It is the intent of the sponsor that any unused balances in FY 1997 for these purposes shall be carried forward into FY 1998 and used for the same purposes.

The sponsor believes that the infusion of these funds into the Division of Fire Safety will facilitate the delivery of training programs, and the development of new programs Statewide for the benefit of the fire service. The sponsor also believes that staff in the Division of Fire Safety must be increased in order to provide the programs and support required of it by the members of New Jersey's fire service.
