ASSEMBLY SENIOR ISSUES, TOURISM AND GAMING COMMITTEE

STATEMENT TO

ASSEMBLY, No. 2877

with committee amendments

STATE OF NEW JERSEY

DATED: JUNE 9, 1997

The Assembly Senior Issues, Tourism and Gaming Committee reports favorably and with committee amendments Assembly, No. 2877.

As originally enacted in 1977, the Casino Control Act prohibited casino gambling by both casino key employees and casino gaming employees. In 1992, the law was amended to allow a casino gaming employee to gamble in a casino or simulcasting facility, other than the casino or simulcasting facility in which the employee works or another casino or simulcasting facility owned or operated by the employee's employer. This bill would amend existing law to give a casino key employee the same right to gamble as a casino gaming employee. The restriction on gambling in the casino or simulcasting facility in which employed or another casino or simulcasting facility owned or operated by the employer would also apply to a casino key employee. Like a casino gaming employee, a casino key employee who terminated employment would be required to wait 30 days before gambling in a casino or simulcasting facility owned or operated by the former employer.

COMMITTEE AMENDMENT

The committee amended the bill to include the provisions of P.L.1997, c.83, enacted April 30, 1997.
