An Act concerning public assistance recipients and supplementing Title 30 of the Revised Statutes.

 

    Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

    1. If a 1[single]1 person 1[without dependent children or a member of a couple without dependent children]1 who is a recipient of benefits under the Work First New Jersey program established pursuant to P.L.1997, c.38 (C.44:10-55 et seq.) is incarcerated in a 1federal, State or1 county jail or place of detention, 1[county]1 workhouse or 1[county]1 penitentiary, the warden, administrator, sheriff or other person in charge of the county jail or place of detention, 1[county]1 workhouse or 1[county]1 penitentiary, or 1[his]1 designee, shall notify immediately 1 ,within 15 days after the recipient's incarceration,1 the director of welfare of the municipality or county, as appropriate, which administers the recipient's 1Work First New Jersey1 benefits.

 

    12. The Commissioners of Human Services and Corrections shall require the cooperation of State, county, local and municipal penal facility administrative authorities to provide county or municipal welfare directors with notification of the incarceration of a person who is a recipient of benefits under the Work First New Jersey program.1


    13. The Commissioner of Human Services shall develop and establish procedures in the Division of Family Development in the Department of Human Services to request prisoner information for a person who is a recipient of benefits under the Work First New Jersey program.1

 

    1[2.] 4.1 This act shall take effect immediately.

 

 

                             

Requires correctional authorities to notify welfare directors if Work First New Jersey recipients are incarcerated.
