A Concurrent Resolution urging the United States Postal Service to provide adequate security at postal facilities.

Whereas, On March 22, 1995, four people were killed and another person was seriously wounded in a Montclair postal facility in a suspected robbery attempt; and

Whereas, The incident in the Montclair post office substation was the latest in a number of violent incidents at postal facilities in recent years; and

Whereas, At least one other violent incident occurred in New Jersey when, on October 10, 1991, a fired postal worker killed two mail handlers in a Ridgewood postal facility after killing his former supervisor and her companion; and

Whereas, Nationwide at least a dozen postal workers have been killed in shooting incidents in the past decade, including the shooting of fourteen persons on August 14, 1986 at a post office in Edmond, Oklahoma, by a postal worker who was about to be fired; and

Whereas, In light of these continuing episodes of violence which target postal facilities and postal workers, resulting in injury and the loss of life for employees as well as members of the public, security measures to prevent such occurrences and to facilitate the apprehension of persons who commit these acts should be required; and
