ASSEMBLY CONCURRENT RESOLUTION No. 95

STATE OF NEW JERSEY

INTRODUCED SEPTEMBER 19, 1996

By Assemblymen COTTRELL and MALONE

A Concurrent Resolution memorializing the United States Department of the Navy to select Lakehurst Naval Air Engineering Station as the site for its proposed Human Resources Service Center for the Northeast.

Whereas, The Navy's Regionalization Implementation Team is in the process of selecting a site for a Human Resources Service Center for its Northeast region; and

Whereas, The Lakehurst Naval Air Engineering Station in Lakehurst, New Jersey, is located within 60 miles of approximately 40 percent of the regional service center's projected customers; and

Whereas, Lakehurst is within easy commuting distance of the national and international transportation hubs of New York, Newark and Philadelphia; and

Whereas, The Lakehurst station offers a well appointed facility compatible with the proposed personnel center's operational needs; and

Whereas, No military construction or acquisition funds would be required because the Lakehurst building is in "move-in" condition and could be easily converted for use as a personnel center; and

Whereas, The Lakehurst building can be occupied within 90 days' notice, thereby satisfying the regionalization team's announced accelerated schedule for completion of this consolidation effort; and

Whereas, This Ocean County location with its tri-state setting offers abundant economic, cultural, educational, health care, housing, and recreational opportunities for the 200 professional personnel who will staff the regional Human Resources Service Center as well as a relatively low cost of living; and

Whereas, The Lakehurst Naval Air Engineering Station is an ideal location, uniquely qualified for selection by the Navy; now, therefore,

Be It Resolved by the General Assembly of the State of New Jersey (the Senate concurring):

    1. The Legislature respectfully memorializes the United States Department of the Navy to locate its proposed Human Resources Service Center for the Northeast region at the Lakehurst Naval Air Engineering Station, Lakehurst, New Jersey.

    2. Duly authenticated copies of this concurrent resolution, signed by the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the General Assembly and attested by the Secretary of the Senate and the Clerk of the General Assembly, shall be transmitted to the Secretary of the Navy, the Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Manpower and Reserve Affairs, the President and Vice President of the United States, the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, and every Member of Congress elected from this State.
