ASSEMBLY RESOLUTION No. 114

STATE OF NEW JERSEY

INTRODUCED JUNE 27, 1996

By Assemblyman GUSCIORA and Assemblywoman TURNER

An Assembly Resolution memorializing the board of trustees of Trenton State College not to remove "Trenton" from the name of the college.

Whereas, The board of trustees at Trenton State College are considering changing the name of the college to "The College of New Jersey"; and

Whereas, This change would be the sixth name change for the college in its 141 year history; and

Whereas, The board of trustees has apparently excluded the students, faculty and alumni of the college from the decision- making process, saying that this is not a matter that can be decided by consensus; and

Whereas, Trenton State College has a nationally recognized name and is a highly regarded liberal arts college, having been consistently listed in U.S. News and World Report's annual survey of "America's Best Colleges," and featured for six consecutive years in Money magazine's guide to "Best College Buys"; now, therefore,

Be It Resolved by the General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

    1. The board of trustees of Trenton State College is memorialized not to remove "Trenton" from the name of the college.

    2. Duly authenticated copies of this resolution signed by the Speaker of the General Assembly and attested by the Clerk thereof shall be transmitted to the board of trustees of Trenton State College.
