ASSEMBLY RESOLUTION No. 121

with committee amendments

STATE OF NEW JERSEY

DATED: NOVEMBER 7, 1996

      The Assembly State Government Committee reports favorably and with committee amendments Assembly Resolution, No. 121.

      This resolution urges the President and the Congress of the United States to support the petition of the Republic of Poland for admission to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and to support the establishment of a timetable during 1997 for such admission. A democratic and independent country, Poland wishes to share in the benefits and obligations of NATO membership in order to pursue free market economic development and to forestall potential political extremism within its borders.

COMMITTEE AMENDMENT

      The committee amended the resolution to change from 1996 to 1997 the year for establishment of a timetable for Poland's admission to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
