STATEMENT TO

ASSEMBLY RESOLUTION No. 15

STATE OF NEW JERSEY

DATED: MAY 20, 1996

The Assembly Judiciary Committee reports favorably Assembly Resolution Bill No. 15.

This Assembly resolution respectfully requests that the New Jersey Supreme Court, the Department of Law and Public Safety, the Department of Corrections and the Department of Human Services develop and approve training programs for judges, prosecutors and mental health professionals working in psychiatric institutions with regard to persons who have been declared incompetent to stand trial or acquitted by reason of insanity.

This resolution was prompted by the report issued by the New Jersey Supreme Court's "Committee to Review the Conrad Jeffrey Matter."
