ASSEMBLY RESOLUTION No. 160

STATE OF NEW JERSEY

INTRODUCED MAY 12, 1997

By Assemblywomen HECK, VANDERVALK, Assemblymen Rooney, Zisa, Kelly, DiGaetano, Talarico, Russo, Assemblywoman Weinberg and Assemblyman Felice

An Assembly Resolution expressing support for the continuation of "Jukebox Radio" on the air.

Whereas, WJUX-FM of Liberty, New York, "Jukebox Radio," is rebroadcast through Dumont Studio and aired in Bergen County, New Jersey; and

Whereas, "Jukebox Radio" in Bergen County is an asset to that county, providing tuneful entertainment and music, as well as community service announcemnts free of charge and news specific to the county and area, to a county of the State which is not fortunate enough to be allocated a full-time commercial FM radio station; and

Whereas, A complaint has been filed by a competitor station located in Oakland alleging technical violations of Federal Communications Commission (FCC) rules by the operators of the Bergen station and seeking substantial fines which would be ruinous to the station and prevent its continued operation in New Jersey; and

Whereas, The Bergen County delegation has expressed its bi-partisan support for "Jukebox Radio" in the past and continues to give its bi-partisan support for the continuation of "Jukebox Radio" in the future as a valued source of entertainment, news and service announcements for Bergen County; now, therefore,

Be It Resolved by the General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

    1. This House expresses its support for the continuation of "Jukebox Radio" on the air in Bergen County, strongly opposes any effort to close down the station, requests the Federal Communications Commission to withdraw or dismiss the complaint filed against the station, and requests the New Jersey delegation in Congress to take action consistent with continuation of "Jukebox Radio" on the air.

    2. Authenticated copies of this resolution, signed by the Speaker of the General Assembly and attested thereto by the Clerk thereof, shall be transmitted to the Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, and the members of the New Jersey congresssional delegation elected from this State.
