ASSEMBLY RESOLUTION No. 165

STATE OF NEW JERSEY

INTRODUCED JUNE 5, 1997

By Assemblymen MORAN and CONNORS

An Assembly Resolution honoring Mr. Thomas P. Farner upon the occasion of the publication of his book New Jersey In History: Fighting to Be Heard.

Whereas, New Jersey today is the product of a long and colorful history, filled with great events, heros and intrigue, stretching from its earliest days as a Dutch colony to its present place as one of the nation's greatest states; and

Whereas, Many of the most remarkable events and occasions that have occurred in the State's past are, sadly, little known, forgotten, misunderstood or underestimated by the millions of people who call the Garden State their home; and

Whereas, Mr. Thomas P. Farner, a lifelong New Jersey resident, has recently published a book entitled New Jersey In History: Fighting to Be Heard in which he explores those topics, events and people, from the colonial era to the Cold War, that were of special significance to this State's role in America's development; and

Whereas, Mr. Farner, a public high school teacher for more than 26 years, has made New Jersey history come alive for thousands of students and has published newspaper columns for more than 20 years that have brought that history out of the classroom and into the homes of countless residents, especially in Ocean county, where he lives; and

Whereas, New Jersey In History: Fighting to Be Heard, which is adapted from many of those newspaper columns, is a well-written and well-researched work that appeals to both the history buff and the casual reader with an average interest in the State's people and events; and

Whereas, It is fitting and proper for this House to honor Mr. Farner for his tireless efforts on behalf of promoting a greater understanding and knowledge of New Jersey history and the publication of his book New Jersey In History: Fighting to Be Heard; now, therefore,

Be It Resolved by the General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

    1. This House honors Mr. Thomas P. Farner upon the occasion of the publication of his book New Jersey In History: Fighting to Be Heard.

    2. Duly authenticated copies of this resolution, signed by the Speaker of the General Assembly and attested by the Clerk thereof, shall be transmitted to Mr. Thomas P. Farner and the publisher of New Jersey In History: Fighting to Be Heard.
