An Assembly Resolution designating the week of January 9 to 15, 1995 as "State Autism Awareness Week."

 

Whereas, The Autism Society of America is observing "National Autism Week" throughout the United States during the week of January 9 to January 15, 1995; and

Whereas, The Autism Society of America has addressed the problems of children and adults suffering with autism for more than two decades; and

Whereas, The New Jersey State Chapter of the Autism Society of America and its local affiliates currently provide support and assistance to more than 12,000 people with autism in the State; and

Whereas, Research has established autism is a disability that has a distinct and separate set of physiologically related characteristics and symptoms making it important that the services provided, both educational and vocational, to those suffering from autism are geared to their specfic needs; and

Whereas, This and future generations of children and adults with autism should be assured ample residential, early intervention, 12-month educational, prevocational, vocational, employment and recreation opportunities to help them develop to the fullest of their capabilities; and

Whereas, It is both fitting and proper for the membership of the General Assembly of the State of New Jersey to acknowledge the charitable activities of the New Jersey Center for Outreach and Services for the Autism Community, Inc. and to help draw public attention to the humane nature and worthiness of their efforts; now, therefore,

 

    Be It Resolved by the General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

    1. The week of January 9 to 15, 1995 is designated "State Autism Awareness Week."


    2. The Governor is respectfully requested to issue a proclamation calling upon public officials and the citizens of this State to observe the week and participate with appropriate activities and programs.
