STATEMENT TO

SENATE, No. 209

with Senate Floor Amendments

(Proposed By Senator Connors)

ADOPTED: FEBRUARY 26, 1996

These amendments would clarify that under the bill's provisions a municipality or other subdivision of the State could restrict the operation of personal watercrafts, commonly referred to as jet skis, under certain circumstances, but could not prohibit their operation outright. A municipality or subdivision could, of course, prohibit a personal watercraft that has not been numbered in accordance with statutory requirements from operating on State waters.

The amendments would also make technical corrections to the bill to conform it to the provisions of P.L.1995, c.401 which was approved January 10, 1996.
