SENATE EDUCATION COMMITTEE

STATEMENT TO

SENATE, No. 281

STATE OF NEW JERSEY

DATED: JANUARY 18, 1996

The Senate Education Committee reports favorably Senate Bill No. 281.

This bill limits the amount of time to five years for which a preferred eligible list for reemployment must be maintained after a reduction in force has occurred. In addition, the bill requires a teaching staff member who wants to remain on the list to provide, by July 1 of each year, written notice, by certified mail, to the board of education of the member's current address and continued desire to be recalled to employment with that board of education. Failure to provide notification will result in the removal of the person's name from the list.

This bill was pre-filed for introduction in the 1996 session pending technical review. As reported, the bill includes the changes required by technical review, which has been performed.
