An Act concerning certain supplemental compensation for school administrators and supplementing chapter 29 of Title 18A of the New Jersey Statutes.

 

    Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

    1. 1a.1 Notwithstanding the provisions of N.J.S.18A:27-4 or any other law, rule or regulation to the contrary, 2[no school board shall pay supplemental compensation 1[in excess of $15,000]1 to]2 an employee 2of a school board2 who holds an administrative position 2shall not receive payment of supplemental compensation2 for any accumulated sick leave which is credited to the employee at the time of termination of employment 1[or retirement] for reasons other than retirement1.

    1b. Notwithstanding the provisions of N.J.S.18A:27-4 or any other law, rule or regulation to the contrary, 2[no school board shall pay supplemental compensation in excess of $15,000 to]2 an employee 2of a school board2 who holds an administrative position 2shall not receive payment of supplemental compensation in excess of $15,0002 for any accumulated sick leave which is credited to the employee at the time of retirement.1

 

    2. For the purposes of this act, an administrative position shall mean any of the following positions: superintendent of schools, assistant superintendent of schools, secretary of a board of education, assistant secretary of a board of education, school business administrator, business manager of a board of education, administrative principal, principal, vice-principal, assistant principal, director, supervisor, and any other position requiring the supervisory endorsement.

 

    23.  a. The provisions of subsection a. of section 1 of this act shall not apply to an employee of a school board who holds an administrative position and who, on the effective date of this act, is entitled to receive payment of supplemental compensation for accumulated sick leave credited to the employee at the time of termination of employment for reasons other than retirement, provided the amount of the payment shall not exceed the amount of the payment that the employee is entitled to receive on the effective date of this act.

    b. The provisions of subsection b. of section 1 of this act shall not apply to an employee of a school board who holds an administrative position and who, on the effective date of this act, is entitled to receive payment of supplemental compensation for accumulated sick leave credited to the employee at the time of retirement in an amount which exceeds $15,000, provided the amount of the payment shall not exceed the amount of the payment that the employee is entitled to receive on the effective date of this act.2

 

    2[3.] 4.2 This act shall take effect immediately 2[and shall apply to policies adopted or contracts entered into by a school board on and after the effective date of this act]2.

 

 

 

Caps supplemental compensation for unused sick leave for school administrators who retire at $15,000 and eliminates the compensation for any other termination of employment.
