An Act concerning the public school curriculum and supplementing chapter 35 of Title 18A of the New Jersey Statutes.

 

    Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

    1. The Department of Education shall develop and establish guidelines and curriculum materials for the teaching of child abduction prevention techniques for utilization by local school districts in the establishment of a child abduction prevention education program in grades K through 8. The program shall be adapted to the age and understanding of the pupils and shall be emphasized in appropriate places in the curriculum sufficiently for a full and adequate treatment of the subject.

 

    2. Six months after the effective date of this act each board of education shall establish a child abduction prevention education program in accordance with the guidelines developed by the department.

 

    3. This act shall take effect immediately.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

    This bill requires the Department of Education to develop and establish guidelines and curriculum materials for the teaching of child abduction prevention techniques for utilization by local school districts in the establishment of a child abduction prevention education program in grades K through 8. Within six months of the effective date of this act, each board of education is to establish this program in appropriate places in the elementary school curriculum.
