This compensation consists of federal grants as well as the proceeds of penalties collected, pursuant to N.J.S.A.2C:43-3.1, from those who commit crimes. This bill appropriates $2,236,000 in federal grant funds to the Department of Law and Public Safety for the use by the board for this purpose. This State's prior effort in compensating crime victims is considered in determining the amount of this U.S. Department of Justice grant.
