An Act concerning the private management of certain school districts and supplementing P.L.1975, c.212 (C.18A:7A-1 et seq.).
Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. If the State board determines to issue an administrative order creating a State-operated school district pursuant to section 15 of P.L.1975, c.212 (C.18A:7A-15), the commissioner may recommend to the State board that it enter into a contract with a private corporation for the management of the district. The terms and specifications of the contract shall be developed by the State board.
2. This act shall take effect immediately.
STATEMENT
This bill provides that if the State Board of Education determines to create a State-operated school district, the Commissioner of Education may recommend that the board enter into a contract with a private corporation for the management of the district. At the present time, Education Alternatives, Inc. is managing several public schools throughout the nation, including nine elementary schools in Baltimore. The provisions of the bill will offer another option when the State Board decides that the creation of a State-operated school district is appropriate.
Provides that Commissioner of Education may recommend contracting with private corporation for management of State-operated school.
