An Act concerning the public school health curriculum and supplementing chapter 35 of Title 18A of the New Jersey Statutes.

    Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

    1. Each board of education shall offer instruction in breast self-examination within the district's health education program. The board shall offer the instruction at a point within the health education curriculum which is appropriate to the age, growth and development, and maturity of pupils. The Department of Education shall establish guidelines to be used by boards of education in offering breast self-examination instruction.

    2. This act shall take effect immediately.

STATEMENT

    This bill requires boards of education to offer instruction in breast self-examination within the district's health education program at a point within the curriculum which is appropriate to the age, growth and development, and maturity of pupils. The bill directs the Department of Education to establish guidelines to be used by boards of education in offering breast self-examination instruction.

Requires public school districts to provide instruction on breast self-examination within the health curriculum.
