STATE OF NEW JERSEY

An Act concerning veterans applying for student loans and supplementing chapter 72 of Title 18A of the New Jersey Statutes.

 

    Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

    1. a. As used in this section "veteran" means a former member of the armed forces of the United States residing in New Jersey who is or was eligible for veterans educational assistance under federal law and who (1) was domiciled in New Jersey either on the date of induction into or on the date of discharge from the armed forces, or (2) has been domiciled in New Jersey for a period of not less than two consecutive years, exclusive of time spent on active duty.

    b. An application submitted by 1a1 veteran for a loan under the provisions of chapter 72 of Title 18A of the New Jersey Statutes shall be given preference over an application submitted by a nonveteran where both applicants have met the guidelines set forth in N.J.S.18A:72-11.

 

    2. This act shall take effect immediately.

 

 

                             

 

Gives veterans a preference over other applicants for student loans for higher education.
