An Act concerning credit toward high school graduation requirements for certain foreign language courses and supplementing chapter 35 of Title 18A of the New Jersey Statutes.

 

    Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

    1. A pupil who is enrolled in a public high school within the State who wishes to take a foreign language course not offered in the resident public school district may complete and receive credit toward high school graduation for a foreign language course offered by a religious organization or any other non-public school organization or entity.

    In order to receive credit for the course, the pupil must meet local district proficiency requirements.

 

    2. This act shall take effect July 1 next following enactment.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

    This bill provides that a public high school student who wishes to take a foreign language course not offered in the resident public school district may complete and receive credit toward high school graduation for a foreign language course offered by a religious organization or any other non-public school organization or entity. In order to receive credit for the course, the pupil must meet local district proficiency requirements.
