SENATE COMMUNITY AFFAIRS COMMITTEE

STATEMENT TO

SENATE, No. 907

STATE OF NEW JERSEY

DATED: MAY 2, 1996

The Senate Community Affairs Committee reports favorably Senate Bill No. 907.

This bill would permit the New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency (HMFA) to make life safety improvement loans to boarding houses in order to remedy construction and fire safety code violations or to remedy a violation of regulations issued pursuant to the "Rooming and Boarding House Act of 1979," P.L.1979, c. 496. Currently, the Department of Community Affairs and the HMFA are interpreting this loan making authority as being limited to making loans to remedy only fire safety code violations.
