An Act concerning the days of operation of public schools for the 1995-96 school year.

 

    Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

    1. Notwithstanding the provisions of section 27 of P.L. 1990, c.52 (C.18A:7D-35) or any other law or regulation to the contrary, no school district shall be penalized for failing to provide public school facilities for at least 180 days in the 1995-96 school year so long as public school facilities are provided for at least 178 days.

 

    2. This act shall take effect immediately.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

    This bill provides that the public schools need remain open for only 178 days in the 1995-96 school year. Current law requires the schools to be open for 180 days or the district may face the loss of State aid. This bill is deemed necessary because of the extraordinarily severe weather conditions that the State of New Jersey has endured.
